Building History
San Francisco designer George A. Applegarth (1875-1972) designed this parking structure in Downtown San Francisco, completed in 1960. A small photo caption stated, "Self-parking garage is patterned after, yet larger, than counterpart in downtown San Francisco. ... designed by architect George Applegarth with Eillison, Sedgwick, & Associates, structural engineers. Ten floors with 1,267 stalls can park up to 3,000 cars per day. Entire parking operation takes only two minutes under normal traffic conditions." (See "Parking Garage," Pacific Architect and Builder, 09/1960, p. 43.)
