The West Auburn Elementary School in Auburn, WA, was awarded a Merit Award in the Unit Masonry Association's Award Competition for Puget Sound architects in 1954. The school also won a Second Place Award in the Non-Residential, Interiors category. The Unit Masoney Idea Book said of the school's concreteblock walls: " Concrete block corridors emphasize the durability so desirable in public school construction. The advantages of structural strength, acoustical properties, economy, and low maintenance costs influenced the selection of material and design.
