Building History

Rudolph Schindler designed this residence for José and June Rodriguez. Richard's great-uncle, John Rodriguez, served as building contractor, erecting the house between 1940 and 1942. It is not clear exactly how the Rodriguez Family selected Schindler, but their grandson, RIchard Rodriguez said this: "Not sure how they met Schindler, but my grandfather worked for Earl C. Anthony at KPFK, as a reporter at the Herald Examiner (Randolph Hearst), and for Walt Disney in an unknown capacity. He traveled in those circles of the artists/intelligentsia of the ‘30’s and ‘40’s Los Angeles; I have no doubt they likely met at a party!" (See email from Richard Rodriguez to the author, 03/04/2022. Thank you to Richard for this information.)
