The book Urban Design and the Bottom Line described Santana Row in 2008: "A mixed-use urban village on a 43-acre (17 ha) site formerly occupied by a declining strip mall; includes 100 specialty shops along a 1,500-foot-long (457 m) pedestrian-friendly main street, 1,200 housing units (luxury townhomes, lofts and flats), a hotel, a 12-screen cinema, and 5,200 parking spaces."
