Overview
This second home of Stiles Hall was required when the University of California demolished the first, Richardsonian Romanesque building to build its Men's Gymnasium (renamed Harmon Gym in 1959) in the early 1930s.
Building History
According to an oral history done with the former General Secretary of Stiles Hall, the building was taken by eminent domain by the University of California, Berkeley in the early 1930s, forcing the student service organization to move out of Stiles Hall #1 to build its Men's Gymnasium (built 1932-1933) at 14 Frank Schlessinger Way. Stiles Hall moved to another small building during the 1932-1949 period at Sather Road and Bancroft Way.
Demolition
Stiles Hall #2 was demolished to make way for the UCB Student Union Building.
