Building History

An article in the Seattle Star in 04/1922 stated about the new West Spokane Street Bridge: "After a delay of more than two years, city officials are at last taking active steps to start construction on the West Spokane st. bridge. William Hickman Moore, chairman of the streets and sewers committee, declared Saturday that the plans of the bridge have been approved by the board of public works and that the city legal department is drafting an ordinance directing the board to proceed at once with the work. Construction of the bridge, estimated to cost $1,500,000, has been held by legal entanglements, the Straus Bridge Co., of Chicago, claiming that the proposed bascule bridge would infringe patents owned by them. City Engineer A.H. Dimock believes that the bridge can be built in 18 months. It will connect West Seattle with the main arterial highway.” (See "Move to Build West Side Span," Seattle Star, 04/01/1922, p. 14.)
