Building History
A classified advertisement appeared in the Sacramento Bee on 06/10/1858: “To contractors and builders. Separate proposals are solicited for the excavation, bricks and sand, mason’s work, cut stone work and carpenter’s work, including materials for the erection of an orphanage, school house, etc., which the Sisters of Mercy desire to erect on M street. Parties disposed to offer, may inspect the plans and specifications at the residence of Rev. John Quinn, situate on L street, between Sixth and Seventh streets, from the hours of nine to five daily, on and after the 10th June, instant. Proposals to be sent in on or before Saturday the 18th of June at 12 o’clock M, sealed endorsed ‘Proposals for——‘ etc., as the case may be, and addressed to Rev. John Quinn.
