Overview
This was the last commercial address of H.H. Bancroft and Company, as the firm was renamed "A.L,. Bancroft and Company" in 1868, and a new factory and offices built at 723 Market Street in 1869-1870. Hubert Howe Bancroft, who retired from business in 1868, was one of the most important and influential book collectors, historians and ethnographers working in California during the nineteenth century.
