Building History

This was the second building to house the what became Anaheim Hospital. Samuel Armor's History of Orange County, California, written in 1921, said of this institution: “As early as 1903, Dr. [Herbert A.] Johnston opened the first hospital in Anaheim, in the old Fowler residence, which became the nucleus of the present Anaheim Hospital, incorporated and built about 1910— an institution of considerable importance to Southern California for it has become a center for surgical work.” (See Samuel Armor, “Herbert A. Johnston, M.D.,” History of Orange County California, [Los Angeles: Historic Record Company, 1921], p. 501.)
