Overview
Owners of the Hastings Clothing Company featured their new building in an advertisement of 07/18/1908 entitled "The Latest Ideas." The text copy of this advertisement stated: "Just as The Hastings Building reflects the latest ideas in the architecture of the day, so do our garments reflect the latest styles in clothes making." (See "The Latest Ideas," San Francisco Call, 07/18/1908, p. 7.) The new building reflected new laws requiring concrete and steel construction methods following the devastating San Francisco Earthquake of 04/18/1906. The building's exterior had thin supports allowing for large window expanses on all four floors.
Building History
In 2020, the leathergoods manufacturer, Coach, and the outdoor clothing and equipment company, North Face, occupied first-floor retail space in this former Hastings Store.
