Building History
Bird and Dornbach, a Seattle-based architectural firm that operated only between 1888 and 1890, designed this schoolhouse for the Kent School District in 1889. A notice to contractors soliciting bids for construction appeared in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on 05/31/1889: "Plans and Specifications are on file at the office of Bird & Dornbach for the building of a two-story frame schoolhouse for Kent district, King county, W.T. Bids close June 6, 1889, at 12 m.” (See “Notice to Contractors,” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 05/31/1889, p. 4.)
