Building History

The architect Herman Steinmann (1860-1905) solicited bids from building contractors to erect a three-story, wood-frame building in 02/1889. His classified newspaper advertisement read: “Bids will be received for a three-story frame building, 60x120 feet, to be erected on the northeast corner of Fifth and Pike streets up to noon February 26, 1889. Plans are on file at the office of H. Steinmann, Architect” (See “Notice to Contractors,” Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 02/26/1889, p. 4.)
