Overview

San Francisco exhibitor Samuel Davis leased the Elite Theatre in 1916.

Building Notes

The Elite had a small fire in mid-1916. The journal Motography noted: "Samuel Davis, proprietor of the Elite theater, San Francisco, had a good deal of excitement in his theater while he was showing ‘The Naked Truth.’ The film caught fire and filled the house with smoke. Al Bainbridge, the operator, was slightly burned, but the patrons succeeded in reaching the exits without trouble, and the blaze was quickly extinguished.”(See “‘Split Reel’ Notes for Theater Men,” Motography, 06/03/1916, p. 1261.)
