Overview

The Berkeley Theatre operated for approximately 82 years, between 1911 and 1993.

Building History

For many years, into the 1970s, the Blumenfeld Theatre Circuit operated the Berkeley Theatre.

The Pacific Theatres chain closed the Berkeley Theatre in 1993. (See Cinema Treasures.org, “Berkeley Theatre,” accessed 10/30/2020.)

Alteration

Los Angeles architect S. Charles Lee (1899-1990) altered the decor of the Berkeley Theatre in the 1930s, updating its aesthetic of the Streamline Moderne. Lee's renovation reduced seating from about 1,200 to 779.

Demolition

Owners razed the Berkeley Theatre c. 1995. It was replaced by a mixed-use apartment and retail complex.
