Building History
The Eagle Block #1, completed in 1888, preceded this second masonry building at the northwest corner of Riverside and Stevens, before it burned in the Great Spokane Fire of 08/04/1889. In 1889-1890, the Eagle Block #2 was erected to be five-stories tall, much like the neighboring ZIegler Building completed just before down the street at the corner of Howard and Riverside. They rose several stories taller than those wood-frame buildings that preceded them, reflecting the business community's boundless optimism in the city's commercial future.
First-floor storefronts housed various retail enterprises, while the block's upper stories housed the Hotel Arthur and, after it closed, the Hotel Raymond.
Demolition
The Eagle Building #2 was razed in 1953. In 2020, the low-rise building housing the 1st National Bank of Spokane Building, (later Numerica Credit Union), occupied the site at 502 West Riverside Avenue.
