Building History
This three-story commercial block stood on the northeast corner of Sansome Street and Halleck Alley. In 1873, it was occupied by the shoe and boot warehouse of the Einsten Brothers and Company and the California Tattersalls, Auctioneers and Commssion Merchants. Einstein Brothers, importers and jobbers of boots and shoes, had their port storage facilities at 29 and 31 Battery Street, and this storage location at 314 Sansome. (In 1873, the street also commonly had the spelling, "Sansom.") The California Tattersalls business was operated by Brush and Mayhew.
