In 1874, the Wells Fargo Exchange, Banking and Express Company, had its headwuarters at 500 Calfiornia Street. At the time, it had advertised capital of $5 million, and had two offices, this one in San Francisco, CA, and another at 65 Broadway in New York, NY.

In 2020, the Omni San Francisco Hotel stood at this location.
