Overview
The Briitish Benevolent Society managed this hospital in San Francisco, CA, in 1865. It was one of seven healthcare facilities operating in the city at the time, complementing the San Francisco County Hospital, Sisters of Mercy Hospital, and the US Marine Hospital. Benevolent societies supported by recent immigrants from Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy, also had facilities at this time. (See Henry Langley, The San Francisco Directory for the Year Commencing December, 1865, [San Francisco: Towne and Bacon, Book and Job Printers, 1865], p. 632.)
