Building History
A brief notice in the Seattle Timesin 1937 reported: "A $5,000 home, designed by D.D. Williams, will be built at 3916 E. 37th St. for Ray Kelly, 4206 E. 38th St." (See Charles Gordon, "7 More Houses Under Way Soon," Seattle Times, 06/28/1937, p. 19.) Kelly may have built this house as an investment property. What was initially called "East 37th Street" was renamed "East Surber Drive." After 1961, the "east" street designation was changed to "northeast" for this section of the city.
