Building History

Pasadena architect J. Cyril Bennett (1891-1957), designed this Sunday School Building for the Lake Avenue Methodist Church in 1923. He collaborated with the builder, W.A. Taylor and Son, to erect the church. A note in the Building and Engineering News in 1923 reported: ""W.A. Taylor & Son, 966 Elizabeth St., Pasadena, have the contract to erect a $60,000, 2-story and basement brick and stone Sunday school bldg. at Holliston and Colorado Sts., Pasadena, for the Lake Avenue Methodist church. Cyril Bennett, 600 Security Bldg., archt. Found. 40x128 ft., slate rf., hardwood fls., pine trim, unit gas furnaces, auditorium, removable chairs, 12 classrooms, kitchenette."
