Building History

The well-traveled, German-born architect Emil Guenther (1855-1935) designed this six-story, apartment hotel for for F.R. Fredericks of San Francisco, CA. The Seattle Daily Times reported on the "Bachelor Apartment Hotel" in its issue of 10/01/1922: "Construction probably will commence within a month on the six-story apartment hotel, according to Emil Guenther, architect. The building will be built for Mr. Fredericks of San Francisco, through his Seattle agents, Williams & Co. It will be a six-story brick structure, containing fifty-seven, two-room apartments and will cover a ground space of 120 by 55 feet. The general contract will be let in two or three weeks, Mr. Guenther said. Apartments in the proposed building are to be rented exclusively to men, making it entirely a men's home. A large parlor and lobby downstairs will be fitted for social purposes. The entrance will be of marble."
