Building History

The Wilson Building, an office building located on the southeast corner of 1st and Spring Streets, appeared in the Los Angeles, California, City Directory, in 1891. Two Wilson Blocks stood across the street from each other: the Old Wilson Block at 126 West 1st Street and the New Wilson Block at about 101 South Spring Street.

Three "Wilson Blocks" were listed in Maxwell's Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1896, (p.1432): at 102 South Spring Street, 139 1/2 South Main, and 429 South Broadway. Four Wilson Blocks were listed in 1897: 102 South Spring Street, 139 1/2 South Main, 429 South Broadway and 113 East 1st Street. Maxwell's Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1897, (p. 992), listed the "Wilson Block (E)" at 429 S. Broadway and the "Wilson Block (L.B.)" at 113 East 1st.
