Building History

The Anacortes American newspaper stated in its issue of 09/18/1890: "Medical Lake will soon have a brick school house. The building contract has been let to C.J. Schenck, who bid $11,000. The plans were drawn by Architect Emil Guenther of Spokane." (See "State News in Brief," Anacortes American, vol. 1, no. 19, 09/18/1890. p. 3.) Emil Guenther (1855-1935), an architect recently transplanted from San Antonio, TX, produced the design for the Medical Lake Schoolhouse.
