Building History

The San Francisco architectural firm of Howard and Galloway designed this building for the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Oakland, CA. In its issue of 02/12/1908, the American Architect and Building News reported about this YMCA: "It is stated that bids will be received in April for considering a seven-story fireproof reinforced concrete Y.M.C.A. building, 84x160 feet, to cost $250,000. The equipment will cost $30,000. Howard & Galloway, 604 Mission street, San Francisco, Cal., are architects. W.A. Horn in General Secretary, Y.M.C.A."
