Photographs by Roger Sturtevant of the Owens House were reproduced frequently between 1939-1945. A small house that seemed larger on the interior, its apparent spaciousness, lack of historicizing detail and stylistic modesty were prized during the Depression Era. The house occupied a hillside site with sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, views that provided a serene atmosphere that was quite photogenic.
