Building History

The Seattle architectural partnership of Willatzen and Byrne designed this residence in a posh section of Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood, for George Matzen, President of the Matzen Manufacturing Company, apparel manufacturers, and his wife, Irene. Willatzen and Byrne designed a gesamtkunstwerk for Matzen, producing interior fittings, windows, cabinets, light fixtures, and furniture as well as the dwelling. Located on Kinnear Place, the house had a panoramic view of Seattle and Elliott Bay, making this design one of Willatzen and Byrne's most outstanding commissions.
