The urban planner Y.B. Yim worked on a master plan update for Western Washington University in 1980. This study did the following: "Updated master plan for Western Washington University at Bellingham, Washington. This project required intensive work sessions with several faculty and student committees, the university planning staff, and staff in the City of Bellingham Planning Department. The updated plan included site selection for new academic buildings, a review of and recommendations on parking, vehicle and pedestrian access, urban design features for campus identity and signs, bookstore expansion, and student housing site expansion plans. Measures for energy conservation and traffic-parking impacts were incorporated in the master plan update." (See Kaprisin Design Group/Y.B.
