Eleanor Joy Toll Hall, named for a founding Scripps College Trustee, became the first realized building in the quadrangle plan of Kaufmann, opening in 1927. It served as the first dormitory on campus.
Architect Gordon Bernie Kaufmann (1888-1949) designed Toll Hall in the Spanish Colonial Revival Style prevalent during the 1920 in CA; it had white stucco walls, red tile roofs and sash windows.
