Confectioner and banker Franz "Frank" Dekum (1829-1894) moved to this Italian villa at 175 11th Street, by 1879, probably after the death of his first wife Francisca "Fanny" Reinig Dekum (born 05/04/1840 in Bavaria, Germany-d. 03/13/1878 in Portland, OR). (See Portland, Oregon, City Directory, 1879, p. 93.) By 1880, the residence had been renumbered to 171 11th.

Dekum married Phoebe M. Humason (1840-1920) in 1881, following Fanny's death.
