In 2019, the address of the Sound Transit Northgate Station was 10130-10298 1st Ave NE.

Building History

Completion of this station on Sound Transit's University-Northgate Link Extension was expected by Fall 2021. Hewitt Architects of Seattle designed the Northgate Garage and Station and Roosevelt Station. Hewitt Architects said of the Northgate commission: "Creating a strong civic place that meets light rail program parameters was the goal. HEWITT’s efforts for the design development started with a design workshop engaging Sound Transit, WSDOT, King County Metro and SDOT that led to the final design of Northgate Station. The design solution had the station cantilever over 1st Avenue NE to maximize future TOD potential for the King County Metro site. The station also spans Northeast 103rd Street to allow the station entry and connection to Northgate Mall. The resulting elevated light rail station and adjacent parking garage will interface with the existing Northgate Transit Center, facilitate connections to Northgate Mall, and provide a connection point to the future Lynnwood Link Extension project." (See Hewitt Architects.com, "Sound Transit North Link – Northgate Station & Garage," accessed 01/30/2019.)

In 01/2018, work was proceeeding smoothly on the tunnel link and stations. The Urbanist web site stated: "Sound Transit reports that the project is about $52 million under budget (total budget is approximately $1.9 billion) for a 4.3-mile extension of light rail opening in fall 2021. Most of the extension will be located within tunnels between stations in Northgate and University of Washington." (See Stephen Fesler, The Urbanist.org, "Northgate Link Under Budget and On Schedule, Sound Transit Reports," published 02/02/2018, accessed 01/30/2019.) A local news organization, HeraldNet of Everett, estimated that the Northgate Station was 2/3rds completed by 06/2018. (See Noah Haglund and Lizz Giordano, HeraldNet.com, "It's getting real: Light rail is coming to the 'burbs." published 06/25/2018, accessed 01/30/2019.)

An extension north would serve Shoreline-Mountlake Terrace-Lynwood by 2024. A further link from Lynwood would reach Everett by 2036, as projected in 2019.
