Building History

Workmen of the Albion Foundry on Pine Street produced the locomotive used by the Market Street Railroad in 1860. The Daily Alta California newspaper indicated that Albion workmen were putting the finishing touches on the locomotive in 07/10/1860: "The workmen at the Albion Foundry, on Pine street, below Montgomery, are busily engaged in making the required improvements and additions to the engine of the locomotive for the Market street Railroad, and we learn that all will be in running order by the end of this week, after which the cars will go regularly between the depot and the Mission." (See City Notes: Market Street Railroad, Daily Alta California, vol. 12, no. 190, 07/10/1860, p. 1.)
