The Greeley Building stood at 547-549 Howard Street.

Building History

Lawyer John Joseph Greeley (born 02/22/1877 in CA-d. 01/23/1923 in San Francisco, CA) inherited a small lot on Howard Street from his mother, Honora Greeley (1852-1902), on her death in 1902. In 1900, he lived nearby at 532 Howard Street wit his mother and five siblings. He held the parcel until 1907, when he applied for building permit for this two-floor commercial space. He obtained the architectural services of Oliver Everett (1860-1943) to design this unreinforced masonry building with simple Classical detailing.
