Overview

This early plan for a new high school for the City of Los Angeles produced by the firm of Caukin, Haas and Boring was rejected by the Los Angeles Board of Education on 12/07/1886.

Building History

In late 1886, the architectural firm of Caukin, Haas and Boring produced a design for a new Los Angeles High School. A dispute over the plans occurred with the Los Angeles Board of Education, who rejected them at a meeting on 12/07/1886. A note in the Los Angeles Herald in 12/1886 reported: "Mr. Caukin, of the firm of Caukin, Haas & Boring, appeared before the board, asking that the firm be paid $225 for services of the drafting of the High School plans, rejected during the early part of the meeting. An animated dicussion took place in regard to this claim. Dr. Kurtz expressed himself very forcibly against the payment of this amount and the board refused to reconsider their former action in regard to the matter." (See "Board of Education," Los Angeles Herald, vol. 26, no. 57, 12/08/1886, p. 5.)
