Building History
The first school to have the name "San Marcos High School" opened in 1958 at the University of California, Santa Barbara's Riviera Theatre, and operated for a sophomore class during 1958-1959. The theatre has been completed in 1926, one year after the destructive Santa Barbara Earthquake of 1925.
A second San Marcos High School complex, erected at 4750 Hollister Avenue in Santa Barbara, served sophomore and junior students during 1959-1960. The new campus accommodated three grades for its 1960-1961 school year, and produced its first graduating class in 1961.
