In 1869, Levi Strauss and Company existed as an importing and jobbing company of clothing and drygoods in San Francisco, CA. The firm was led by David Stern and Louis Strauss and had its headquarters at 14-16 Battery Street. Louis Strauss resided in New York, NY, in 1869, while David Stern lived at 317 Powell Street.
