Old Pasadena, Pasadena, CA 91105

In 1903, the Braley Building stood at 29-31 South Raymond Avenue.

Building History

According to the Pasadena, California, City Directory, 1903, p. 51, Edgar Braley sold automobiles, bicycles and cigars at this address. (See Pasadena, California, City Directory, 1903, p. 51.) The Pasadena, California, City Directory, 1902, (pp. 209 and 236), indicated that Braley sold bicycles and sporting goods at 31 South Raymond Avenue. The 1902 directory (p. 208) also indicated that Pasadena had three automobile dealers, one of whom, the Automobile and Bicycle Livery, operated across the street at 26 South Raymond Avenue. This competing, neighboring business may have spurred Braley to get into automobile sales himself the following year.

This building would be razed c. 1905 and a new, four-story Braley Building would replace it by 1906.
