The Rhodes Brothers 10-Cent Store in the University District had two doorways, one at 4509 and the other at 4511 University Way.

Overview

Operating in a first-floor storefront of the Saint Moritz Building, this dime store served students at the University of Washington in 1941. It was one of three owned by the Rhodes Brothers Company in the city at the time. This firm long had a dime store location in the Arcade Building in Downtown Seattle, that operated from 1903 through the 1950s.

Alteration

Permits were obtained to renovate the storefront at 4509 University Way into CaliBurger beginning on 07/08/2015. This work cost an estimated $100,000.

The current tenant in 2018, Cali Burger, has covered over the clerestory windows above the plate-glass display windows, and made significant other internal changes to accommodate a restaurant. In 2018, the restaurant had 5,385 square feet of space.

Demolition

The Saint Moritz Building still stands, but the Rhodes Brothers 10-Cent Store has been removed.
