Overview

Brothers Andrew J., John and Benjamin Woodhouse operated a meat market at 1425 Front Street (later 1st Avenue) in 1895. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1895, p. 803.)Their previous market was located at 2020 Madison Street; a classified advertisement in the Seattle Daily Times, 01/08/1897, read: "For rent--The old grocery store of Woodhouse Bros., 2020 Madison street, Apply to Woodhouse Bros., 1425 First avenue." (See "Woodhouse Bros. classified advertisement," Seattle Daily Times, 01/08/1897, p. 6.)

Building Notes

The site of the Woodhouse Brothers' Meat Market (1425 1st Avenue) would later be occupied by the Economy Market Building within the Pike Place Market complex. In 2018, the 1425 storefront was occupied by Bottega Italiana, a store selling Italian gelati. This store, owned by Luca Guerrieri, Antonella Ragazzi and David Arato, opened in 2003.
