Overview
In 1944, the Home Mutual Savings and Loan Association, founded in 1885, had its headquarters at 160 Sutter Street in San Francisco, CA. Its president in 1944 was Milo R. Robbins. (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1944, p. 80.) It stood next door, directly west, of Willis Polk's remarkable Hallidie Building (1917), one of the earliest glazed curtain walled buildings in existence.
Building History
In 2018, various firms occupied this six-story building, including, on the ground floor, Site for Sore Eyes opticians, the Alden Shoe Company showroom, the Native Company, a company selling juices, smoothies and healthy snacks, and an American Automobile Association (AAA) office.
Building Notes
The San Francisco Assessor's Parcel Search indicated that the building at 168-180 Sutter Street was erected in 1987, but it appears to predate this. The building contained 35,243 square feet on a 11,621-square-foot lot. According to assessor records in 2018, the building contained 6 units, 21 rooms and 14 bathrooms.
The land and building last sold for $34,887,800.00 on 10/12/2010.
