Overview
In 1926, the Hotel Elk operated at this address, managed by T. Kikida. It was one of many hotels managed by Japanese-Americans for the use of recent immigrants from Asia, denied housing elsewhere in segregated neighborhoods. In the Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1926, of the 142 hotels listed in it, 34 were managed by individuals with Japanese surnames. This was about 24% of the total. In the Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1926, (p. 767) it indicated that the Hotel Elk had been known formerly as the "Hotel Lux."
