It is the smallest cathedral in the world at 1,053 square feet; builders constructed it from debris collected around Long Beach after the 1933 Earthquake there; pews were brought from another church and cut into two to accommodate the narrow nave; the City of Laguna Beach was set to demolish the cathedral in 1993, due to its unreinforced masonry construction; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places;
The cathedral had a $50,000 masonry retrofit in c.1994;
