Overview

In 1877, the businessman Aaron M. Meier (1831-1889), co-proprietor of the Meier and Frank General Store in Portland, OR, resided on the east side of 3rd Avenue between Clay and Columbia Streets. (See Portland, Oregon, City Directory, 1877, p. 130.) The same city directory (p. 94) noted that Emil Frank (1845-1898), Meier's partner, also lived at this address.
