The building was dedicated 12/31/1936; the Depression-era architectural collaborative Allied Architects of Fresno designed the auditorium to seat 3500 visitors. The noted Southern California artist, Anthony Heinsbergen, painted the building's Art Deco murals in the foyer. In 1956, the Democratic Party held its national convention at the Memorial Auditorium, nominating Governeor Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois and Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee.
