Overview
Mrs. N. Lewis and her sons managed the Saint Charles Hotel in 1889, then located at 707 2nd Avenue in Seattle, WA. (See R.L. Polk and Company's Seattle City Directory, 1889, p. 384.) The hotel was located on the west side of 2nd Avenue, between Columbia and Cherry Streets, shading closer to the latter. In 1884,
Building Notes
In 1884, the first floor of the Saint Charles Hotel had a saloon in its north storefront and a the hotel office in the south. It was located across the street from the Methodist Episcopal Church #2, located near the corner of 2nd Avenue and Columbia. The half-block on which the Saint Charles Hotel #1 stood, bounded by Cherry Street (north), 2nd Avenue (east), Cherry Street (south) and an alley (west), contained a Fire Engine House, several wooden sheds, four dwellings, two second-hand goods stores, a picture frame shop, a saloon, a stationery store and an office. Demolition
The wood-frame Saint Charles Hotel #1 was destroyed in the Great Fire of 06/06/1889.
