Overview

San Diego's Brewster Hotel was in operation in 1899 at the corner of 4th and C Streets. (See San Diego, California, City Directory, 1899, p. 306.)

Building History

In 1891, J.E. O'Brien was the manager of the Hotel Brewster, located on the corner of 4th and C Streets. In its advertisement in The Rural Californian of 02/1891 (p. 108), O'Brien boasted that his was "the only hotel in San Diego having a passenger elevator" and that the hotel also contained a US post office.
