Overview
Miner and insurance agent Lewis Steenrod McLure and his wife, Ella Tibbits McLure, moved to the San Diego area from Seattle, WA, in 1882. Shortly after arrival, he erected a residence on the corner 24th Street and H (later renamed Market) Street. The couple lived at this address well into the next century.

Alteration
According to architectural historian Kathleen Flanigan, Hebbard did remodeling work on the L.S. McLure House in 1891 "...which involved the addition of a second story and interior changes."
