Overview
The Pontius Building housed the Clairmont and Company cabinet shop that had the dubious distinction of being the origin point for the Seattle Fire of 06/06/1889 that destroyed "...29 square city blocks of wooden buildings and about 10 brick buildings, including practically the entire business district, all but four of the city’s wharves, and its railroad terminals." (See Greg Lange, HistoryLink.org, "Seattle's Great Fire," published 01/16/1999, accessed 05/02/2018.)
Demolished
Due to the use of flammable glues within the Clairmont and Company furniture shop, this location became the epicenter of Seattle's most costly and devastating fire.
