Overview
This three-floor, 1920s-era building accommodated the Loyal Order of Moose in Seattle, WA. The Moose started as a fraternal organization in Louisville, KY, in 1888, although it didn't begin to grow rapidly until the rise of James J. Davis (1873-1947) within the order during the 1910s and 1920s. Evidently, Davis was a charismatic leader and sound organizer who supervised the expansion of Moose lodges across the US. Thegroup served as a social outlet, provided financial support for white, working class men, and operated various charities for children. Davis became the only man to serve as a US Secretary of Labor in three consecutive administrations, those of Harding, Coolidge and Hoover.
