Overview
This utilitarian shelter was erected in 1947, by three hard-core surfers--Woody Ekstrom, Fred Kenyon and Don Okey--that frequented Windansea Beach. The shelter consisted of four posts driven into the sand, covered by a compound hipped roof sheathed with palm fronds. Local surfers have used the hut since just after World War II, although it had to be rebuilt in 06/2016, after a tidal surge destroyed it on 12/24/2015. The beach was named for a beloved local hotel by that name that burned in 1943.
