Overview

This theatre, part of the Chutes Park amusement complex, was in operation in 1907, one of twenty large theatres operating at that time in Los Angeles, CA. (See Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1907, p. 1928.) It was completed by 12/1900 by the Los Angeles County Improvement Company, the new owners of the property.

Building Notes

The Los Angeles County Improvement Company set about improving its new property in 1899 by building new features, including a large roller coaster, water slide, and the theatre. Chutes Theatre stood next to the chutes water slide. The Mission Revival Chutes Theatre seated 1,400 and featured a changing menu of vaudeville acts.

Demolition

The Chutes Park Theatre, like the rest of the amusement park was torn down. In 2017, a parking lot stood on the site of the former theatre.
